How to arrange treatment?
Most patients 'self refer' i.e. they contact
the clinic directly to arrange an appointment
for an assessment.
Some patients are referred by their G.P.
(members of medical insurance schemes may be
obliged to contact their G.P. prior to
assessment).
Some patients are referred by their Consultant
for treatment following surgery or to try
conservative treatment before considering
surgery.
Personal injury victims and people injured in
road traffic accidents may be advised to seek
physiotherapy treatment for their injuries.
This is often arranged through their solicitor.
If you are unsure of this the clinic can advise
you on this procedure.
The clinic corresponds closely with all
referring services, G.P., Consultant or
Solicitors.
Funding
Patients in medical insurance schemes are
usually covered for physiotherapy fees.
(Policies do vary so it is wise to confirm this
with your insurers).
Fees for Personal Injury and Road Traffic
Accident treatment are normally recoverable
from the third party insurers. This can be
confirmed by your legal representative.
Self-funding patients are informed of treatment
costs per session when arranging appointments.
The Assessment
At the assessment a detailed history is taken
of the injury or condition and the events
leading up to it including any other relevant
medical history.
You will then be examined to determine the
cause of the injury and to identify what the
nature of the injury is.
These findings will be discussed with you and a
treatment plan formatted.
Treatment
This usually involves manual therapy, massage
manipulation, electrotherapy e.g. ultrasound,
heat or ice.
You will commence a simple exercise programme
that will be progressed depending on your
improvement during the treatment period.
At the conclusion of your treatment programme
you will be advised on what measures are
necessary to maintain your current status and
prevention of recurrence.
